CoLearning Sustainability Hub

The CoLearning Sustainability Hub is more than a place to access courses - it's a dynamic professional learning ecosystem where you can engage with practice-oriented knowledge, reflect on how it applies to your own work, and connect with peers navigating similar sustainability challenges.

Learning here is an ongoing, collaborative journey, not just a one-off training event. Whether you work in conservation, environmental management, education, civil society, public administration, consulting, or international development, you'll find flexible scheduled as well as self-paced content designed to fit around your schedule and be immediately relevant to your daily work.

Become a Hub Trainer

To ensure high-quality learning continues long-term, the Hub offers a "Train the Trainers" pathway for experienced lecturers who want to deliver engaging online courses and become Hub trainers.

The programme helps you build strong online teaching skills and develop the entrepreneurial know-how to offer training to NGOs, governments, research organisations, graduate schools, and others — helping sustain the Hub well beyond its initial phase.

As a Hub trainer, you'll join a growing international community of scientists, institutions, and networks working in sustainability, and build new connections around the world.

Participation is open to everyone and free of charge — but please note the training itself is unpaid. A willingness to commit time over a two-year programme without financial compensation is a prerequisite.

Steps to become a Hub trainer

Complete the Course

Complete the "Train the Trainers" course.

Regular Coaching

Take part in regular coaching sessions with the Hub team.

Co-Teaching

Co-teach courses alongside the Hub team and fellow trainees.

Deliver Your Course

Deliver your own half-day online course.

Fundraising Course

Complete a course on fundraising and business plan development.

Funding Requests

Submit at least two funding requests (e.g. training offers or proposals to NGOs, governments, research organisations, graduate schools, etc.).

Partners and collaborators

The CoLearning Sustainability Hub builds on a strong foundation of international collaboration. It is based on the CABES e-learning portal, its predecessor, which was developed with funding from the International Climate Initiative (IKI), provided by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN). The Hub itself has been further developed with IKI funding, also by the BMUKN, through the SYMBIOTIC project.

We work closely with a range of projects and. organisations to deliver high-quality courses and learning materials, including:

· CABES project and its project partners

· AGYA (Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities)

· AFAS project

These partnerships allow the Hub to draw on diverse expertise and networks, ensuring that the learning content offered remains relevant, high-quality, and grounded in real-world sustainability practice.
